The Mary Burlie "Black Angel" Society And Autumn House!

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

I'm very excited to commemorate the opening of our website with our very first post in the blog! I wanted to thank everyone that has helped us so far with the preparation and planning for this idea to come to life! Now let's dive right in!

The about us page in the website does a good job conveying what we are about here at the Mary Burlie "Black Angel" Society or the Tmbbas for short, but we wanted to dive in a bit deeper as well as talk a bit about the plans moving forward.

Like we mentioned, the Tmbbas (I know I used "the" twice I'm working on it so please forgive me) is a 100% Non-profit organization. Our first project is Autumn House. This program is designed to empower women to overcome challenges they have been facing so far in their lives by providing them with a safe and supportive living environment where they will learn life and wellness skills which will help them go through their current challenges and any that may come along in the future!

Autumn's Story

Autumn Burlie was a young woman who lived life to it's fullest. She had a big heart and cared tremendously about her loved ones. Autumn was deeply loved as a mother, daughter and as a sister. She was born on October 28, 1999 and passed away from drug poisoning on July 15, 2021 at the young age of 21 years old. She always remained hopeful for a brighter future for herself and her son.

Although she was not able to reach her goal of reunifying with her son, we see this as an opportunity to bring honor to her. May Autumn's name be a beacon of hope to women who have experienced great trauma in life.

Autumn House

Our first step towards honoring Autumn's name is our first program here at Tmbbas. The programs name is Autumn House, which is a supportive housing program.

Here at Autumn House, we offer a welcoming, family living environment with structure and supervised support using a harm reduction-based approach. We work on life and wellness skills for participants who are experiencing trauma, substance misuse, and mental health. We provide accommodations for women aged 18-27 years. Our program focuses on each individual's journey to healing by prioritizing building on their own cultural and spiritual wellness.

For more information or to support us in our journey please feel free to contact us through email at autumnhouse@tmbbas.com

Future Plans!

We will have other ventures we will be working on in the near future, however as of right now our efforts are focused towards opening Autumn House in the fall of 2023. We have had numerous of positive conversations with people in and around our community about the need for this type of program! This is very encouraging and has the team very excited about where we are headed.

This is the end of our first post on the website so I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone that has and will be a part of this as well as every person that takes the time to visit the website and of course to support us! We hope to do great things and bring positive changes to our communities and continue to grow the legacy of Mary Burlie, "Our Black Angel".
